The Enchanted River

9 kms. from the National Road is the enticing beauty of Enchanted River in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

People may wonder why this river is so blue and despite of heavy rains it doesn’t shows any even little sign of being contaminated. Scientists have found out that river that has high concentration of dissolved lime gives the water a turquoise color e.g the Havasu Falls ”.

People are allowed to to swim but all are encourage to use their life jackets.

Apparently, native folks possibly won’t believe this so scientific explanation. Such that legend will always be a legend and folks’ story will remain folk story. J People in this town believed that there are mysterious creatures that guard the river. That is why it remains still since from the beginning.

Every 12:00-1:00pm, the bell rings. This signals the people to go out from the water because this is time to feed the fishes. While feeding, they play music that had us goose bumps. I heard different people commenting the same "The music seems like to invite or call these unknown creatures from nowhere.” Creepy indeed! Native people from the place would just say it’s a ‘nature-song’.  Yeah we heard it right. What interest us the most are these big and colorful fishes splashing when getting their food?  Where they come from? How did these people set time to feed these sea creatures? It never stops us from being curious.  Even now, I still wonder if “Enchanted River” really is true. Are we just being ‘enchanted’? Nah. J
